58 students from the Department of Applied English at Ming Chuan University successfully obtained the International Professional Etiquette Service Certification, achieving a 100% pass rate.
On the 4th of this month, 58 students from the Department of Applied English at Ming Chuan University successfully obtained the International Professional Etiquette Service Certification, achieving a 100% pass rate. This accomplishment highlights the department’s excellence in nurturing workplace ethics and cross-cultural literacy. The certification, issued by the Cross-domain Talent Development Center of the Chinese Computer Skills Foundation, aims to enhance students’ international professional service capabilities.
The Department of Applied English has made workplace ethics and international etiquette mandatory courses, focusing on cultivating students’ global English proficiency and emphasizing the importance of cross-cultural literacy and ethics. Instructor Maggie Su stated that through these courses, students not only learned professional language skills but also gained a deep understanding of the practice of international etiquette, preparing them thoroughly for the global job market.
Department Chair Chaochang Wang pointed out that in addition to language proficiency, workplace ethics and etiquette are essential qualities. She emphasized that a sound knowledge of international etiquette is key to developing transnational talents, enabling students to better present themselves on the international stage and communicate and collaborate effectively with people from diverse cultural backgrounds.
The 100% pass rate in obtaining the International Professional Etiquette Service Certification not only demonstrates the outstanding achievements of the Department of Applied English at Ming Chuan University in education but also proves the students’ readiness for the professional world. This accomplishment will inspire more students to pursue international career development, laying a solid foundation for their future.
Welcoming Japanese Students from Tottori University for our English Language Study Program!
This March, we are thrilled to welcome 16 students from Tottori University, Japan, to our Department of Applied English for an enriching four-week English language study program. From March 4th to March 27th, these students will embark on a lively and interactive journey to enhance their English skills through a curriculum that not only covers the core skills of listening, speaking, reading, and writing but also delves into cross-cultural understanding, English for technology, drama/readers theater, presentation skills, and British tea culture.
To kick off their stay, our department hosted a welcoming party on March 5th. Dr. Wang Chaochang, the Chair of the Department of Applied English, gave an inspiring talk, encouraging the students to be open-minded towards the local culture and to strive for excellence in improving their English abilities. Dr. Wang also expressed her commitment to support them in every aspect of their stay.
In addition to the academic curriculum, we have assigned Teaching Assistants to provide both academic and personal support, ensuring a smooth adjustment to life and studies here. The in-class TAs assist with learning during lessons. The living TAs will provide guidance on homework during the ninth period and will also assist students in adapting to their daily lives.
We look forward to an exciting and productive few weeks ahead, filled with learning, cultural exchange, and friendship. Welcome, Tottori University students, to our community!

The students led by Dr. Cheng Hsin-fu (鄭杏孚老師) and participating in the 2023 English Social Solutions Contest (held by Rotary Club of Taipei; Topic: Develop and Present a social project to benefit your community) have once again achieved great success.
Shih Yi-jun (施宜君), Chen Ho-yun (陳荷韻), and Yao Chih-ching (姚芷晴) have all been awarded the Dale Carnegie Prize, while another team, Fan Hao-ching (范皓晴) and Chiu Pei-tong (邱霈彤), have received the Rotary Spirit Prize.
Dr. Cheng’s meticulous and professional guidance and encouragement have enabled these students to showcase their strengths in the competition. Their achievements are not only a personal source of pride but also a source of honor for our department. We hope that our students will continue to work hard, utilize their strengths, and contribute to bringing more positive changes to society.

Cheers magazine published its “2023 Best University Guide” on February 20, wherein Ming Chuan University ranked as the 10th best university in the country, its best ranking ever.
Ming Chuan University is the first U.S.-accredited university in Asia, and is committed to promoting multilingualism and cross-border instruction, cultivating students’ global career strengths, and implementing the educational philosophy of localizing global knowledge and globalizing local knowledge to enhance students’ career strengths and international outlook and vision.
MCU Vice President Dr. Lynne Lee said that MCU has spared no effort in promoting internationalization, not only is it the only university in Taiwan that has received approval from both the Taiwan and U.S. governments to establish a branch campus in the U.S., but in recent years it has also developed into a global university with 5 locations across national boundaries (Taipei, Taoyuan, Jihe, Kinmen, and Michigan in the U.S.) and three education centers (Thailand, Japan, and Vietnam). The number of foreign students in the 2021-22 academic year continued to rank first among private universities.
In recent years, MCU has been actively promoting the “10 Pillars Competency Evaluation” and “Practical Abilities” to cultivate students with profound basic knowledge and solid professional ability. Workshop on TEFL & Applied Linguistics at MCU on 3/17-18
The Department of Applied English (DAE) is hosting an annual international conference on English teaching in celebration of the university’s anniversary. Sponsored by our university as well as the National Science & Technology Council and the Ministry of Education, the department is set to hold its 24th MCU International Conference and Workshop on TEFL & Applied Linguistics at MCU’s Jihe Complex on March 17-18.
Spanning two days, the overarching theme of the conference is Exploring English Education in the Post-Pandemic Era: Reflection and Prospect. The conference program includes six plenary speeches, two invited workshops, one colloquium, and seventy-five paper presentations. An estimated 200 to 250 attendees are expected. Three of the six plenary speeches will be delivered by renowned international scholars in the field of applied linguistics. In addition, twenty international scholars will be presenting their research studies. The remaining three plenary speeches will be given by esteemed scholars from Taiwan. The invited colloquium and two workshops will address exciting and inspiring topics, such as English as a Medium of Instruction (EMI) in higher education, bilingual education, and teaching methods that promote interaction and communication.
