My Journey in the English Department
Joining the English Department at Ming Chuan University has been a meaningful part of my college life. I transferred here a year ago, and even though I was nervous at first, this department quickly became a place where I felt supported, challenged, and inspired. 🌟

When I started my first semester, I wasn’t sure about the classes I needed to take because everything was new to me. But I was sure about my choice to major in Bilingual Education and English Teaching. 📚 The department staff helped me every step of the way, making sure I had what I needed to adjust smoothly. 🤝

One thing that really stood out to me is how dedicated and professional all the teachers are. 👩‍🏫👨‍🏫 I’ve had both Taiwanese and native English-speaking teachers, and they all focus on helping us grow in both academic knowledge and practical skills. Whether we’re learning grammar, literature, listening, speaking, or writing, our teachers always make sure we understand the lessons clearly and know how to apply them in real life. They encourage us to express ourselves, think critically, and communicate confidently. 💬📝

As a transfer student, I didn’t know many people at first. But my classmates welcomed me warmly, and their kindness made a big difference. 🤗 They helped me when I had questions, especially during times when Chinese was used in class. Many teachers try their best to use both English and Chinese, so that everyone can follow along and feel included. 🌏 This kind of support made me feel more comfortable and motivated.

In my second semester, I started to feel more confident and familiar with the way things work in our department. I chose classes that matched my interests, like research writing, which helped me prepare for future projects in my third and fourth years. I also worked on my weaknesses and learned how to become a better writer and student overall. ✨
One of the most memorable experiences I had was joining a service-learning program as a teaching assistant for visiting Japanese students. 🇯🇵🇹🇼 I helped them improve their English and learn about Taiwanese culture. I also shared my own experiences as a Filipino living in Taiwan—how I adjusted to the language, the weather, and the culture. I enjoyed connecting with them and learning about their stories too. 🌈

I also took a class in bilingual education and developing teaching materials where we practiced using both English and Chinese while creating creative and practical teaching materials. It made me more excited about my dream of becoming a teacher. 👩‍🏫

Although my journey is just beginning, I’m thankful for everything I’ve learned so far. I look forward to growing more both as an English learner and as a future educator. 🌱📖
